Hi! Thank you for taking the time to stop by.
I was given my first camera when I was 8 years old. I would trail our pets around and go through many reels of film taking pictures of everything that meant something to me. That passion for capturing meaningful moments hasn't changed.
From South Africa, my passion for photography began to grow while living in the game reserves surrounding Kruger National Park. My first real subjects were elephants and rhinos, and when I got lucky, lions, leopards and wild dogs. Learning on moving, unpredictable subjects shaped my belief in the magic of freezing time in an image.
After moving to the city I discovered my love for family photography. The magic in a child's smile; the smell of hope in the hair of a newborn; the pure love in a new mother's eyes - these things are what light me up inside, and to capture these moments is my greatest privilege.
I have been in New Zealand for a little while now, and while a piece of me will always belong in South Africa, with every family I get to photograph, a piece of my heart is given to them and slowly, I am coming home.
Thank you for being a part of my journey, and allowing me to be a part of yours.
Sincerely,
Michaela
